Ten days in full.
Every day is listed exactly as it runs β no surprises on the ground.
Your journey begins the moment you land. A Supreme Signature representative meets you before the immigration hall β your bags handled, your car waiting. Tonight belongs to you. The Nile is outside your window.
Before the gates open and the world arrives, you are already there. The Great Pyramid of Khufu, the Pyramid of Khafre with its ancient limestone cap still intact, the Sphinx from angles most visitors never reach. Your private Egyptologist walks you through 4,500 years of engineering, theology, and questions that still don’t have answers. Then the Grand Egyptian Museum β Tutankhamun’s golden throne, his chariots, the innermost coffin that held a boy king for three thousand years. Most visitors leave wishing they had more time. We give you enough.
A thousand years of Islamic civilization compressed into a single street. Al-Muizz β the oldest open-air heritage corridor in the world, its Fatimid gates and Mamluk madrasas unchanged for nine centuries. The Citadel of Saladin, from whose ramparts you can see the pyramids in one direction and Cairo in the other β a view most tourists never find. Khan El-Khalili, the great bazaar operating continuously since 1382, where your guide knows which lanes hold the real craftsmen and which are theater.
A short flight south and you cross three thousand years. Luxor was Thebes β the greatest city in the ancient world. Karnak: the largest religious structure ever built, 134 columns each 23 meters tall, constructed by 30 pharaohs over 1,300 years. Your Egyptologist takes you through the rooms most visitors walk past. At dusk, Luxor Temple comes alive as the sun drops β the Avenue of Sphinxes stretching into the evening light.
Cross the Nile before the heat rises and the tours arrive. Sixty-three royal tombs cut into the limestone cliffs β their painted walls as vivid today as the day they were sealed three thousand years ago. The Temple of Hatshepsut, built by the woman who ruled Egypt as pharaoh for twenty-two years. The Colossi of Memnon. The West Bank before the crowds is one of the great privileges of traveling privately. Note: We visit the West Bank at dawn when the air is crisp, ensuring you climb the tomb entrances comfortably before the midday heat.
β¦ Optional: Hot Air Balloon over the Valley at dawn (+$180/person)
Drive south along the Nile Valley. Edfu: the best-preserved ancient temple in Egypt, arrived by horse-drawn carriage as travelers have done for a century. Kom Ombo: a twin temple on a dramatic Nile bend where the crocodile mummies were found sealed in the walls. Then onward to Aswan β calmer, more Nubian, the river scattered with granite islands. A different Egypt.
Before the day tours arrive, you are already at Abu Simbel β two temples cut into a sandstone cliff by Ramesses II 3,200 years ago. The four colossal statues at the entrance are 21 meters tall; they were engineered so that twice a year, sunlight penetrates 65 meters into the mountain to illuminate the sanctuary. The Temple of Nefertari beside it is the finest monument ever built by a pharaoh for his queen. At sunset, a private felucca on the Nile as the granite islands turn gold. Silence except for the sail.
β¦ Optional: Abu Simbel by Air instead of road (+$220/person)
The Temple of Isis at Philae β reached by motorboat, dismantled stone by stone and reassembled to save it from the rising waters. The Unfinished Obelisk, still lying in the granite quarry where it was abandoned 3,500 years ago β more revealing than any finished monument. Lunch in a Nubian home on Elephantine Island: a family, a meal, a conversation that money cannot buy. This is the Aswan that doesn’t appear in travel brochures.
A morning flight back to Cairo, then a drive southwest into a different world entirely. The Fayoum Oasis β Egypt’s largest, fed by a branch of the Nile since the Middle Kingdom. The road climbs a ridge and Lake Qarun appears below: ancient, shimmering, 35 kilometers long. Tunis Village above it: a community of potters and ceramic artists perched on a cliff above the water, quiet and entirely unlike anywhere else in this country. An afternoon by the lake. Dinner as the light fades. Then back to Cairo for your final night.
Note: This is a longer, active day of travel starting with a morning flight and followed by a scenic drive to the Fayoum Oasis. We pace the journey carefully, but please expect a full day from sunrise flight to lakeside sunset, returning to Cairo for your final night.
A last Egyptian breakfast. No schedule β the morning is yours. Then a private transfer to Cairo International Airport. You leave carrying something that doesn’t fit in your luggage.
